About Us
The Writer
I’m Abbey Archer, an Austin Native and an avid traveler. As a writer, my strength lies in transporting others to new places, exploring new ideas, and sharing the experiences of others. I have traveled through Barcelona, Florence, and Budapest studying Cross Cultural Psychology and The Language and Rhetoric of Tourism. In doing this, I learned about how cultural misconceptions impact the tourist experience and the local culture. I would like to add transparency to the travel writing industry by telling things as I see them. I am an experienced journalist, having been a reporter at the Williamson County Sun and Editor-in-Chief of The Megaphone. In journalism, there’s the cliche advice to be a “fly-on-the-wall” but as a creative narrative nonfiction writer, I also like to take a “bull-in-a-china-shop” approach by placing myself right in the middle of the action.
The Photographer
I’m Ethan Sleeper and I started my photography journey in 2015 when I traveled to Japan for the first time to visit family. Upon entering a world that was so wildly unfamiliar, I was inspired to document all the new views, people, and culture that surrounded me.
Fast forward to 2023, I’ve taken photos across the world including Japan, El Salvador, Spain, the British Virgin Islands, and Canada as well as across the United States including California, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, Texas, Colorado, and Hawaii. I’m excited to continue this journey and to create beautiful images that honestly capture the places which we explore.
A goal we’ve set for Loosely Cultured is to include as much original photography as possible in our articles. We believe the authenticity and beauty that this approach brings is irreplaceable.
